A Londoner by birth, Ian grew up in a small town outside Bristol, with music, bird watching, photography and nature walking as his favourite past-times (he even got to do a bit of haymaking once in a while). Despite having teaching in his blood (both his father and grandmother were teachers), Ian didn't particularly enjoy mainstream education, although, thanks to one gifted teacher, he did develop an early and lifelong love of history. A varied career since leaving school has seen him work in the insurance industry, do a stint in the Royal Air Force, and work in the printing industry for four years. Five years with a voluntary Christian organisation followed, during which Ian stumbled upon teaching. Ian is married with a 2 year old son, Theo.
